Pediatric occupational therapists work with families, teachers, and other child development professionals to identify underlying challenges that may be contributing to learning, behavioral, and/or social-emotional issues at home or school.  Below are some common indicators that your child may benefit from OT services.

  • Poor motor control when writing – work is messy, letters too large, light or shaky pencil strokes
  • Struggles copying from a whiteboard
  • Difficulty tying shoelaces and managing clothing fasteners (zipper, buttons)
  • Uncoordinated gross motor skills
  • Frequently trips and/or bumps into objects
  • Hard time observing personal space of others and keeping hands to self
  • Slumps in chair, poor posture
  • Activity avoidance
  • Difficulty focusing
  • Poor self-regulation and impulse control
  • Inability to slow down or remain still
  • Overreacts to touch, taste, sound, or odor
  • Difficulty making friends
  • Hard time initiating tasks promptly
  • Decreased visual spatial skills – hard time lining up math problems, doesn’t remember to put spaces between words
